Materials Buyer

Job Title – Materials Buyer  

  • Reporting to – Head of Procurement    

Job Description 

  • Construction material products knowledge.
  • Ordering of materials
    • Taking and responding to phone calls & e-mails – to be dealt with promptly and efficiently.
  • Deal with all invoices relating to Materials in a timely manner.
  • Liaise with Transport, Plant & Workshop departments to ensure we utilise all Materials available to us.
  • Work effectively under pressure within a team and offering support to colleagues.

Main Duties  

  • Tendering / Estimating
  • Negotiating with Suppliers
    • Negotiate best pricing
    • Arranging deliveries & call offs
  • Inputting orders on purchasing system
  • Liaising with site personnel
  • Keep paperwork relating to deliveries, such as tickets.

General Administration duties

  • Good knowledge of I.T.
    • This includes understanding & maintaining internal systems and databases.
    • Producing & updating spreadsheets
  • Filing & Photocopying
    • Keep paperwork relating to deliveries, such as tickets.
  • Assist answering phone calls into Procurement Office


  • Have an understanding of what materials and products are in the Yard
  • Holiday/absence cover
  • Attend pre-start meetings
    • This includes site & office meetings.
    • Business insurance required on private vehicle.
